Christmas Caroling Row Along? Designing a row, for Christmas, in April?
30 pattern designers are sharing row patterns throughout September for free. The topic is Christmas songs and stories. Giveaways, raffle-copter, blogging… I truly had a lot of questions when I first received an email from the founder and organiser of this event, Marian Pena from Seams to be sew. Marian invited me to join the group of skilled traditional quilt designers despite my contemporary approach. Relishing a challenge, I happily accepted the invitation and started my design work in April in order to be ready for September. Thank you Marian for organising and all your help!
I chose the song ‘Mary did you know?’ It is actually my brother-in-law’s, who was visiting us at the time in London, favourite song. He played the song for me and it resonated immediately as it beautifully describes faith. Thank you Luke for introducing me to this song. The row is 12″ x 30″ and it is based on the “English Paper Piecing” technique. I chose this technique for two reasons. First, I just love hand sewing. You can do it almost everywhere and it is easy to bring along. Second, I did not have a sewing machine over the last few months as I was moving countries with my family. We packed up in London to move to Brisbane. A very practical reason really.
